The World Championship 2024 (Worlds 2024) is the premier esports event for fans of League of Legends (LoL). This year, the championship is taking place from September 25 to November 2, covering several European cities, including Berlin, Paris, and London. 20 of the world’s top teams are battling for the title of champion and the opportunity to immortalize themselves by designing team skins.
The tournament unfolds in several stages, starting with the Play-In Stage, followed by the Swiss Stage, and finally leading to the Knockout Stage. The Play-In Stage featured 8 teams, of which 4 secured spots in the main event.
The Swiss Stage, introduced last year, allows each team to play up to five matches. Teams that secure three wins advance, while those with three losses are eliminated. This format has replaced the traditional group stages and adds extra excitement, as every match could be decisive.
In the Swiss Stage, teams like LNG Esports and Gen.G impressed with flawless 3-0 records, securing their places in the quarterfinals. Other strong contenders, such as Hanwha Life Esports and Top Esports, advanced with 3-1 records. This stage was particularly exciting, as teams with similar records faced off against one another, with no repeat matchups allowed.
The Knockout Stage, starting on October 17, promises thrilling showdowns. The matches follow a single-elimination format, with teams competing in best-of-five series. This year, the Knockout Stage will be held in two cities: the quarterfinals and semifinals in Paris, and the grand final in London. Teams like T1, Bilibili Gaming, and FlyQuest have already secured their places in the quarterfinals, and fans are eagerly awaiting their performances. The final match, scheduled for November 2 at London’s iconic O2 Arena, will determine the next world champion.
All matches are streamed on Riot Games’ official platforms, and fans can participate in Pick’Em, predicting their favorites and earning exclusive rewards like icons, emotes, and capsules. Additionally, viewers can enjoy content from popular streamers who will be co-streaming the matches Worlds 2024 has become a true celebration for all League of Legends players and fans, promising dramatic battles, incredible gameplay moments, and, of course, the crowning of the new world champion.
