Scientists named a new species of crab after a character from League of Legends
A group of Chinese researchers have discovered a new species of crab and decided to name it after one of the most famous League of Legends champions. An article describing the new species was published on the Zoosystematics and Evolution portal.
This new species belongs to the crabs of the superfamily Xanthoidea. The discovered individual and other representatives of this species were named Gothus teemo and separated into a separate genus. The crab’s name refers to Teemo, a yordle scout from League of Legends known for his poison darts and poisonous mushrooms placed around the map that strike attacking enemies. Gothus teemo lives in the coral reefs of the South China Sea, and its coloration is reminiscent of Teemo’s fur – the crab’s shell combines shades of beige and brown.
