T1 is a legendary esports team from South Korea, best known for their achievements in League of Legends (LoL). Over the years, they have become a symbol of dominance on the international stage and have nurtured stars like Faker, who for many fans worldwide has become the face of LoL.

History of Creation

The team was founded in 2003 as part of the SK Telecom organization under the name SK Telecom T1. Initially, SKT was a StarCraft team, but as League of Legends grew in popularity, the organization turned its attention to this game. In 2013, the first LoL roster was formed, and from that point on, the team began its journey to greatness.

The organization gained prominence due to its connection with the large corporation SK Telecom, one of the biggest telecommunications giants in South Korea. This gave the team solid financial and infrastructural support, helping it become one of the most stable and professional teams in the world.

First Roster

The first significant T1 roster for League of Legends included the following players:

  • Top: Impact
  • Jungle: Bengi
  • Mid: Faker
  • ADC: Piglet
  • Support: PoohManDu

This lineup became iconic not only for the team but for the global League of Legends scene. The young and ambitious Faker, who joined the team in 2013, quickly established himself as an outstanding player. At just 17 years old, his mechanics and game sense shocked the esports world. In a short time, Faker became not just the team’s star but a true legend of the game.

Best Moments

T1’s major successes are linked to their dominance at the League of Legends World Championships (Worlds). The team won the world championship three times: in 2013, 2015, and 2016, becoming the first organization to achieve such incredible success.

  • 2013: T1 wins their first world championship, defeating the Chinese team Royal Club in the finals with a 3-0 score. This is when the world witnessed Faker’s brilliance. It was the moment when the South Korean scene began to dominate LoL.

  • 2015: After a slight dip in 2014, the team returned to the world stage and claimed the world champion title again. In the finals, they once again defeated the Chinese team KOO Tigers with a 3-1 victory.

  • 2016: T1 became the first team to win the world championship twice in a row, defeating Samsung Galaxy in the finals. This tournament cemented Faker’s status as the greatest player in League of Legends history.

In addition to their world championships, T1 has also won multiple times in the Korean LCK, considered one of the most competitive leagues in the world. They also won the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), one of the most prestigious tournaments outside of Worlds.

However, starting in 2017, the team faced some downturns as competition on the world stage increased. Despite this, T1 remained one of the top teams, consistently showing strong performances in the LCK and international tournaments.

Evolution of the Team

In 2019, the team went through a rebranding and became known simply as T1, dropping the SK Telecom name from the title. This was part of a strategy to strengthen the organization’s global brand.

The team continues to develop young talent and consistently discovers new stars. Even after several seasons where T1 couldn’t reclaim the world championship title, they remain one of the most influential and powerful teams in League of Legends history.

T1 is not just a team; it’s a symbol of an entire era in esports. Their achievements have set high standards for all other teams, and their players, especially Faker, have become icons not only of League of Legends but of esports as a whole. The team has won the world championship three times, and over the years, T1 has remained in the spotlight as one of the most decorated and respected organizations on the international stage.
