History of the Scottish football team

Team Schottland UEFA EURO 2024

The Scotland national football team has a passionate following and a long history in the game, but their performances at the European Championships have often been marked by ups and downs. Scotland qualified for the European Championships in Sweden for the first time in 1992. Although the team did not make it past the group stage, the participation itself was a milestone for Scottish football.

The second time Scotland qualified for the European Championships in 1996, which took place in England. In a difficult group they faced strong opponents like the Netherlands and England. Fans particularly remember the nerve-racking draw against the Netherlands and the dramatic game against England, in which Scotland narrowly failed. However, the passion and energy of the Scottish fans, known as the Tartan Army, left a lasting impression.

After a long absence from major tournaments, Scotland made a comeback to the European Championships in 2021.
The Scottish national team’s return to the 2021 European Championship was an event of great importance for the country and its fans. After a quarter of a century away from major tournaments, anticipation was high and the Tartan Army turned out in droves to support their team. In the group stage, Scotland showed impressive passion and determination, leading the team to a respectable 0-0 draw in a hard-fought game against England. Particularly striking were the performances of players such as Andy Robertson, who captained his team, and Billy Gilmour, who demonstrated his talent in this game. Although Scotland were eliminated at the end of the group stage, participation in Euro 2021 was a great success and a sign that Scotland has returned to European football. The energy and enthusiasm of the Scottish fans, which was evident in every minute of the game, left a lasting impression on many observers. Scotland had shown that they were a team to be reckoned with in the future and that the spirit of Scottish football was still alive.
