Top 3 Heroes who became stronger after patch 7.37 in Dota 2
On the night of July 31 to August 1, Valve released update 7.37 for Dota 2. In this patch, the developers made adjustments to several mechanics and changed certain abilities and characteristics of heroes. Thanks to these changes, some heroes received significant buffs, which have already resulted in an increase in their win rates. We have highlighted three characters who benefited the most from the patch and are now set to dominate matches.
Medusa
In recent months, Medusa has not been very popular among players, both in the professional scene and in regular matches. In update 7.37, the developers decided to bring her back to the top. One of the key changes was the removal of the Mana Pact aspect, which was underused and had a low win rate. In its place, Medusa received the Venomous Volley ability. This ability adds a debuff to regular attacks that triggers every fifth shot, similar to Slardar’s ability. Venomous Volley slows enemies in three ways: movement speed, spell casting speed, and attack speed.
Venomous Volley can stack with Split Shot, although when using Split Shot, only the primary target will receive the negative effect. At level 25 and with the corresponding talent, Venomous Volley will affect all targets.
Medusa also received a new active skill called Gorgon’s Grasp. This replaced Mana Shield, which is now an innate ability that automatically improves with each level. The base value of damage blocked is 2.4 per mana point, reaching 5.4 at the maximum level.
Gorgon’s Grasp is a nuke with control. Medusa creates three radii of action (each larger than the previous one), where enemies are stunned for up to 2 seconds and take damage.
These changes make Medusa more flexible in terms of item builds and allow her to acquire enhanced nukes faster without sacrificing survivability. She becomes more self-sufficient, addressing mobility and control issues that hindered her in the early and mid-game stages. Even without the Eye of Skadi item, Medusa can now easily chase down enemies.
Viper
Viper received a new innate ability in patch 7.37. Corrosive Skin remained in his arsenal but is stronger at level four. Additionally, Viper gained a unique feature called Predator, allowing him to deal additional damage to an enemy equal to 0.25 + 0.05 for each level of Viper.
At level one, Viper deals 0.3 damage for every percent of missing enemy health, and by level three, it increases to 0.4. For instance, at level three, Viper will deal an additional 24 damage to an opponent with 40% health, which is a significant advantage during the laning phase and early game.
In the late game, a level 25 Viper will deal an additional 90 damage to enemies with 40% health. While this does not make Viper the top carry in the team, this bonus significantly enhances him without requiring mana. The hero can still build as a tank while maintaining high kill potential.
Kunkka
Kunkka fell out of the meta slightly in the last patch. In update 7.37, he received several changes. He now has a new innate ability — Admiral’s Rum: when Kunkka’s health drops to 65%, he gains a movement speed bonus and a delayed damage effect. The “rum” effect lasts ten seconds with a cooldown of one minute, making it more difficult for enemies to gank Kunkka in the lane or burst him down in the late game, as the effect triggers automatically even when stunned.
The Tidebringer ability, previously innate, remains unchanged. Kunkka also received a new Aghanim’s Scepter, which replaced the Torrent Storm ability. Now, the item allows launching two ships with the ultimate, dealing damage not only at the destination point but also along the way by bombarding enemies with cannonballs. The radius and AoE damage have become significant, and the ships apply the “rum” effect to allies.
As a result, Kunkka, like Viper, gained a powerful innate ability without losing other buffs. The hero has become stronger in the lane and improved survivability at all stages of the game. The new Aghanim’s Scepter enhances team fights in the early stages, despite offering less control than before.
These changes in patch 7.37 make Medusa, Viper, and Kunkka more competitive and sought-after in matches, allowing them to fight more effectively and support their team.
