Creation History
Team Vitality is one of the most well-known and successful esports organizations, founded in France in 2013 by two enthusiasts, Fabien “Neo” Devide and Nicolas “Nox” Maurer. From the start, their goal was to build a top European team. Initially, they focused on mobile games, but quickly expanded into major esports disciplines such as Call of Duty, FIFA, League of Legends, and, of course, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS).
Team Vitality positions itself as a powerful international organization, with an emphasis on professionalism and competing for major tournament victories. Their ambition and strategic approach have helped them grow into one of the leading esports teams not just in France, but globally.
First Roster and Early Successes
Team Vitality initially focused on games like Call of Duty and FIFA, achieving notable successes in local and European competitions. However, their most significant milestones came with the expansion into CS and League of Legends.
The first League of Legends roster was formed in 2015 to compete in the European LEC (formerly EU LCS). This roster included standout players such as:
- Cabochard (top),
- Shook (jungler),
- Nukeduck (mid lane),
- Hjarnan (AD carry),
- kaSing (support).
Although this initial roster didn’t achieve major victories right away, it laid the foundation for future success in the game. Over the following seasons, Vitality established itself as a solid competitor in the European LoL scene and later became one of the top teams in the LEC.
Best Moments and Achievements
One of the most remarkable periods in Team Vitality’s history came in 2019, when the team achieved significant success in CS. The organization signed legendary French player Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, who quickly became a global star and one of the best players in the world. With ZywOo onboard, Vitality started winning major tournaments and consistently ranked among the top teams globally.
Notable team achievements:
- Winning EPICENTER 2019, where Vitality displayed exceptional gameplay and solidified their place among the world’s elite teams.
- ZywOo was named HLTV’s best player of the year twice (2019 and 2020), further reinforcing Vitality’s status as one of the top teams in CS.
- Competing in and placing highly in prestigious tournaments such as BLAST Premier, ESL Pro League, and others.
In League of Legends, Vitality also regularly placed in the top 4 of the LEC and qualified for the World Championship (Worlds) 2018, which marked a major milestone for the organization. At this tournament, they made a strong impression by defeating one of the favorites, the Korean team Gen.G.
Unique Style and Philosophy
Team Vitality is known for its attention to detail, innovative training methods, and a focus on building strong team dynamics. The organization invests heavily in training facilities, player fitness, and mental health. Vitality places a strong emphasis on long-term talent development, as demonstrated by the success of ZywOo, who went from being relatively unknown to becoming one of the best players in the world.
Team Vitality is a prime example of how a European organization can quickly rise to global prominence through professionalism, ambition, and excellent management. Since its inception, Vitality has established itself as one of the leading forces in global esports, achieving success across multiple disciplines. With players like ZywOo and continued growth on the international stage, Vitality is well-positioned to continue shaping the future of competitive gaming.
